Education Ministry

Inspired by Jesus, our Divine Teacher, the Daughters of the Cross, Bombay Province, are dedicated to providing quality education which transforms the lives of our students. Our approach to education is inclusive, integrated, and rooted in our values of compassion, justice and service.

The FCs run 9 schools in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka catering to nearly 11000 students every year with the help of 340 teaching staff members. Our initiation in the Education Ministry goes back to the 19th Century, when our Founder, Blessed Marie Therese and her own Sister Ferdinand opened a school for the poor and reached out to the weakest and most suffering through education. This occurred during the French Revolution, which took place in the 1830s, prior to the establishment of the Congregation in 1833 in Liege, Belgium. The legacy of Blessed Marie Therese was passed on to the sisters who came to India in 1862 and slowly began boarding schools for the poor and the orphans in Bandra and Byculla. We slowly spread outside Mumbai to Igatpuri (1889) and Panchgani (1895). Sr. Theodorine, the pioneering sister along with others zealously travelled to Belgaum and Hubli in Karnataka and Educational institutions sprang up there too (1911).

We strive to create a learning environment that upholds the values enshrined in the Constitution of India, promotes ecological consciousness, and fosters a culture of acceptance and inclusion. Our educators work tirelessly to accompany children with special needs, collaborate with stake holders, and stay abreast of the latest developments in Education including the New Education Policy 2020.
